Frequently asked questions

Does the system withstand hurricanes?

Yes, our systems are designed to withstand hurricanes due to their sturdy construction, low center of gravity, and the weight of the gravel spread across the grow beds, which is weighs over 2 tones.

How does it work?

Fish provide nutrients for plants through waste. Plants filter and clean water for fish, creating a balanced ecosystem.

Is the electric consumption high?

The main energy consumption comes from the water pump, which operates efficiently, consuming between 80-100 watts without affecting water temperature or the health of the tilapia fish. This is due to the fact that the pump is submerged in water and as a result it is able to cool itself 24/7.

How often will I be adding water to the system?

Water addition frequency depends on weather conditions, but typically the system balances itself with rainwater collection and evaporation, requiring significantly less water than traditional farming methods.

Can I visit your farm?

Yes, we welcome visitors. Please contact us to schedule a tour and learn more about our sustainable practices.

What is aquaponics?

Aquaponics is a sustainable method where fish and plants grow together in one system, benefiting from each other's presence.

What is the least amount of fish my system can have at any given moment?

You should have no less than half the amount of fish the system came with. For example, if your system is designed to accomodate 200 Tilapia, you should have no less than 100 Tilapia and any given moment.

Can I expand/reduce my system after it's built?

Yes, our systems are designed to be easily expanded or reduced according to your needs and preferences

How frequently will I have to maintain/clean my system?

Maintenance frequency varies based on usage, but monthly checks are recommended for simple upkeep.

What are the best plants that grow in the system?

While a variety of plants can be grown, it's best to avoid those with extensive root systems to prevent system clogging. Excellent choices include lettuce, peppers, green onions, celery, kale, tomatoes, cantaloupes, and parsley.

How frequently should I feed the fish?

The feeding frequency depends on desired growth rates. Feeding them 3 times a day promotes rapid growth, while once or twice a day results in moderate to slow growth.
